Advisory Council

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Advisory Council provides guidance, support, and expertise in matters related to DEI initiatives throughout the Society. The council serves as a resource and sounding board for chapters, members, and volunteers, offering strategic advice, sharing best practices, and helping to shape the overall DEI strategy.

RIMS Risk Management Talent 2025 Report

The RIMS Risk Management Talent 2025 Report aims to provide a better understanding of who comprises the profession today and where skills and experience can be strengthened. The survey also explored the perception of diversity, as it is inexorably tied to hiring practices. Results showed that diverse perspectives is a trait many risk professionals look for when seeking employment or trying to build an inclusive corporate culture.

Carnell Jones is the Corporate Risk Manager at Ventas, Inc. a Real Estate Investment Trust specializing in  the ownership and management of health care facilities in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Carnell is primarily responsible for property and general liability claims management and loss  control programs for the company’s ~1,200 property medical office, senior assisted living, and research& innovation portfolio. Carnell is currently serving as the President of the Chicago RIMS Chapter and has served as the Chair of the Chicago Membership/Communications/DEI Committee since 2019. Carnell holds a B.A. in Business Management with a Minor in Economics from Morehouse College

Jacob Toner is the Director of Risk & Intelligence at Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) in New Zealand, leading enterprise risk management and quality, safety & risk data insight for New Zealand’s largest healthcare provider.  Jacob has a background in risk management and project & programme management quality assurance largely in the public sector.  Jacob holds a Masters in Public Policy from Victoria University.  Jacob is the co-founder of ADHB’s Rainbow Employee Network.

Why did you join the D&I Advisory Council?
I joined the Council to help contribute to making the risk industry welcoming and diverse.  Risk management is a multi-disciplinary field, and diversity is a strength to our practice.  RIMS as a leading organisation in the industry has an outsized role to play.  Closer to home I've founded an LGBTQI+ employee resource group, and created a process for identifying and responding to incidents of racism.

Tara Lessard-Webb is currently celebrating over 20 years as a professional in the property & casualty insurance industry. Experienced in providing strategic direction, leadership and risk oversight for the Canadian region in consultation with other Global regions ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Dedicated to valuable contribution in the evolution of risk oversight and reporting to local Senior Management and the Board of Directors.

Why did you join the D&I Advisory Council?
Positive change takes work and it’s great to see RIMS stand behind making a difference for its members but also for the industry overall. As a member of the Indigenous community, I felt there was a general lack of representation; I want to be a positive change maker, doing the right thing. To quote Maya Angelou, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”, I think everyone has had an experience where they felt excluded or not accepted as their authentic selves. I want all people to feel like they belong.
