The Risk Manager of the Year program aims to raise the profile of the risk management profession and the outstanding programs the honorees have implemented within their organizations. The program was initiated in 1977 and the Risk Management Honor Roll was added in 1981.

Any full-time professional who administers risk management programs for a corporation, nonprofit institution or government entity is eligible for submission in the Risk Manager of the Year program. The nominations are judged by an independent panel comprising prior honorees and other risk management and insurance industry leaders.

Roxsann Wilson is the Vice President of Risk Management for Cardinal Health, a $145 billion integrated healthcare services and products company that provides customized solutions for hospitals, healthcare systems, pharmacies, ambulatory surgery centers, clinical laboratories and physician offices around the world.

At Cardinal Health, she is responsible for coordinating the risk financing solution for all property and casualty risks for the organization. She manages insurance placements, as well as the development and implementation of a wide-range of cross-functional, enterprise risk management objectives including business continuity initiatives and loss mitigation strategies.

Roxsann has dramatically restructured the property, professional, products liability and cyber liability programs with the assistance of outside coverage council reviews and by collaborating with senior-level internal resources. She established new procedures that successfully leverage other technologies to optimize the insurance recovery process. Her continuous and methodical efforts resulted in the recovery of multi-million dollar claims.

Roxsann and her team have also implemented numerous cost containment initiatives in workers’ compensation from occupational health resource, managed care and creative return-to-work programs. These efforts have resulted in millions of dollars in annual savings and have improved overall awareness throughout the organization.

She has partnered with the CISO to start a standalone cyber insurance program and enhance the cyber governance and incident response processes.

Currently, she is leading a team through the integration of a multi-billion dollar acquisition, the significant transition of its divestitures, its $150 billion plus revenue, 600 worldwide locations and nearly 50,000 employees.

Most importantly and paramount to Roxsann and her team’s success, she has elevated the visibility and increased the impact of the risk management department throughout the organization. Demonstrating its value, the role of risk manager at Cardinal Health is now perceived as a critical position that must be included within many major decisions and strategies across the enterprise.

Jane Sandler is the Vice President, Global Risk Management of McKesson Corp. With over $214B in annual revenues in 2019, McKesson is a global leader in healthcare supply chain management solutions, retail pharmacy, healthcare technology, community oncology and specialty care.

Jane is responsible for effective risk management for McKesson worldwide. She successfully collaborates with cross-functional business partners to optimize the total cost of risk through active leadership, innovation, governance and enterprise-level risk oversight.

Under her guidance, McKesson’s risk management team designs and leads cost-effective strategies to evaluate, mitigate and manage the company's operational and strategic risks. Through her team’s successful efforts, the risk management brand was elevated to that of a vital contributor to many of the organization’s important decisions.

Among her many accomplishments, Jane has successfully created a centralized global risk management function, led the design and implementation of a new RMIS system to improve data integrity. She also facilitated the development and execution of a globally integrated risk management framework to adopt McKesson’s growth through acquisitions, including European Pharmaceutical Solutions Segment fiscal 2019 revenues over $27 billion across 10+ countries.

Placing data analytics at the core of company’s risk financing strategy, Jane also conducted Global Risk Financing Optimization and Captive Utilization studies that allowed McKesson to re-evaluate all traditional insurance purchasing decisions. The initiative also allowed the organization to execute opportunities to retain additional risk in captives, accelerate reduction of the total cost of risk and begin hedging against hardening market as part of its longer-term strategic planning.

Jane’s passion, expertise and relationship-oriented approach has motivated her to be a strong advocate for the risk management profession. A recognized leader in the field of risk management, she continues to give back by sharing her experiences through mentoring, industry board and advisory service, speaking engagements and developing the next generation of risk professionals.
